a Dutch painter, draftsman and lithographer, known especially for his seascapes. In the summers of 1843 and the two following years he made with Prince Henry, brother of King William III, some long trips with the Navy to the Mediterranean Sea and the North. He also visited Morocco and Iceland. In 1844 he traveled along the coasts of South America. Many of his later works based on drawings he made during the various tours.
