a Belgian composer. Nephew of Charles-Louis-Joseph Hanssens, he was, at the age of ten, second cello at the National Theater of Amsterdam. In 1822 he became the appointed conductor. In 1824 he went to Brussels where he settled after a few stays in Holland, Ghent and Paris. In 1848 he received the position of musical director of the Théâtre de la Monnaie.
