an English pirate captain, commanded the ship Thomas for his brother Francis Drake during the campaign in the West Indies. He became a crew member in 1560 and attended all his robberies expeditions to the Caribbean. Together they plundered many Spanish ships, towns and villages. He was also on the ship GOLDEN HIND (PELICAN) with Vice Admiral Francis Drake on a trip around the world in the years 1577-1580. During a trip to the South Atlantic, there was a dispute between Francis Drake and Thomas Doughty. The tension grew even more when Thomas Doughty was caught stealing ship's stores on Pelican. After the execution Doughty sailed through the Strait of Magellan and completed a trip around the world. In 1585 Thomas as captain participated punitive expedition to Spain. The aim was to free the captured English ships grain and according to his will plunder the most Spanish cities. Along the way they learned that the captured ships were already released. Francis Drake changed the plan and set sail to the Caribbean for a very rich Santo Domingo, which was the capital of the Spanish domination in Central America. December 31.1585, the city was easily captured from the land, because the Spaniards were expecting an attack only from the sea. The following day the English town brutally plundered from the population chose a rich ransom and burned it. Then there was plundered Saint Augustin. After June 10, 1586 landed at Roanoke Island, who was the first English colony in North America. From the request of the local governor took the English settlers back to England. July 27.1586 with great fanfare landed at Portsmouth. In 1587, Thomas attended a preventive attack against Cadiz and La Coruna. There they managed to destroy branders thirty-seven vessels and thereby delay the Spanish invasion of England by the year later. In 1588 he participated in the successful repulse Felicissima Spanish Armada (Invincible Armada). See John Hawkins. In 1589 he took part in expeditions English Armada (Contra Armada, Invencible Inglesa) in Spain and Portugal under the command of Admiral Francis Drake. The invasion ended in utter disaster. See Francis Drake. In 1595 Thomas sailed to the latest raids Francis Drake and John Hawkins in the Caribbean. Thomas died in the attack Spanish ships.
