a Dutch Golden Age still life painter. He primarily painted kitchen and market scenes. His work also shows familiarity with the work of the painter Pieter Aertsen, who was renowned in van Schooten's time for both his religious altarpieces and lush still lifes. Van Schooten became the dean of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1639. He was prolific, and many of works can be found in museums such as the Louvre.
