Czech composer and pianist. He was a distinguished piano pupil of Tomášek and later a bank official by profession. Although no written reports about his public performances have survived, his Romantic character-pieces, strongly influenced by Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin, are evidence of his keyboard mastery. In such stylized dance pieces as Aufforderung zur Polka op.17 his work typifies Czech music.
