a Bavarian court painter in the Baroque. Nikolaus Gottfried went to the teaching with his father Caspar Gottfried and worked in Untersendling on the ceiling fresco of the parish church there. He is known for an altar of the monastery church in Aldersbach and for the redesign of the high altar of the parish church of St. Peter in Munich. He came to Franconia through the Order of the Teutonic Order, in whose church in Bad Mergentheim he created the work "The defense of faith" between 1731 and 1734.
