a German composer. Bagges father was rector at the gymnasium to Coburg. After Selmar Bagge early his musical studies began, he had 1837 students of Dionys Weber at the Conservatory in Prague and later at Simon Sechter in Vienna . From 1851 to 1855 he taught at the Conservatory in Vienna, after which he worked as a music critic and -journalist. From 1863 to 1865 he was editor of the general musical newspaper . Since 1868, he directed the music school in Basel, since 1876 he also taught at the local university . He composed four symphonies , a piano concerto, two fairs , chamber music and choral works, songs and piano pieces in the tradition of Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. His textbook of music became known.
