a German composer and conductor. He was a very productive composer. The number of his works goes into the hundreds. They document the stylistic transition from classicism to romanticism. His compositions include mainly operas , musical comedies, overtures, symphonies, ballets and cantatas, concert and chamber music, songs and oratorios. In his songs, he set numerous poems of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. His works have also attracted attention outside Thuringia and in other European countries, where they found their way into the concert repertoires. He belonged to the circle of the Weimar Court of Muses, as its most prominent representative Duchess Anna Amalia and Goethe are considered.
