Advertising

Colonial Sense offers a variety of advertising options. While all advertising is free, CS membership (also free) is required to post on the site.

To post ads, log in (create an account first, if necessary), click on your Account button, select the Biz tab and pick the appropriate section to advertise in.

Display Ads

Display Ads are promotional images, 250 pixels wide and an indeterminate height, that run vertically down the right-hand side of each page on the CS site. We ask you abide by the following guidelines:

All Display Ad posts are FREE.
Our Display Ads are curated. All posts require CS approval (usually within 24 hours) before they will appear in the Ad rotation.
Your Display Ad needs to be relevant to the Early Modern era and to the interests of our readers. If it's for something off-topic (say, cell-phone service), your ad still needs to be somehow pertinent to the Early Modern enthusiast (i.e. 'The cell-phone service Ben Franklin would have used!').
The CS Ad Server places up to 12 ads on each page in a semi-random rotation. We can also place a single ad at the top of every page, and/or rotate through a series of ads (and various other options). Please contact us for more information if these capabilities interest you.
You can view total impressions and click-through counts of each ad you post in the Biz->Display Ads panel on your Account page.
You can have multiple Display Ads for the same event/items, but we ask that you make each ad substantially different from any others; in short, do not just post multiple copies of the same ad. Bryan would be happy to discuss any multi-ad campaign you may have under consideration.

Event Listings

Listing your Event on CS is a great way to get your message out to the people who are most interested in it. We ask you abide by the following guidelines:

All Event posts are FREE.
Our Event Calendar is curated. All posts require CS approval (usually within 24 hours) before they will appear in the listing.
Your Event needs to be relevant to the Early Modern era and to the interests of our readers.
One listing per Event. If you have recurring Events, you should talk to Bryan before posting.

Marketplace Ads

Buy and sell items appropriate to Early Modern history: antiques, reproductions, artwork, or other wares. We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

All Marketplace posts are FREE.
Ads are subject to approval, to ensure that only ads somehow applicable to the Early Modern era are displayed.
The Marketplace is not an auction; items you post will remain in the FOR SALE listings until marked as SOLD or deleted.
All transactions are between the Seller and the Buyer. Colonial Sense does not participate, nor take a cut, of the sale.
Suspected fraud or scams should be brought to our attention. Refusal to adhere to our posting guidelines may result in your posting privileges suspended.

Company Listing/Page

Let people find you and your services or products by listing your company in our Business District. We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

All Company Listings are FREE.
Your company does not need to exclusively cater to the Early Modern audience, but we ask you to promote those aspects that are in your listing.
Your Company Page has its own URL, so you can link it to any promotional items on other sites.
Before posting, you'll need to know your company's name, with a short desciption. There are many other optional items you can add to make your Listing and Page more complete.
Currently, only one company is allowed per Member. If you have multiple commanies to promote, consider having a separate CS Member account for each business.

CSLanding - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

If you don't have a website (or other landing page for your ads and listings), you can create a CSLanding Page for that very purpose. We ask that you observe the following:

CSLanding Pages are FREE to all Members
CSLandings are useful stand-ins when you don't have a a Company Listing/Page or other website to link to. You can link your Event Listing, Marketplace or Display Ad to a CSLanding.
CSLandings let you add text and images to your page, however meets your needs.
Your CSLanding has its own URL, so you can link it to other ads you have not on Colonial Sense.
Your CSLanding should deal specifically with something within the Early Modern sphere of topics. Please do not use your CSLanding page for purposees outside the parameters of our readers' interests.
You can have as many CSLandings as you like.
