She was sentenced to seven years' penal servitude in New South Wales. In 1806, three years after the end of her sentence, she traveled with her child aboard The Venus, with plans to become a servant. The captain of the ship, Samuel Chase, was in the habit of flogging the women for entertainment, until his charges and crew mutinied. Badger and another convict, Catherine Hagerty, talked the men on board into seizing the ship, while the captain was ashore at Port Dalrymple in northern Tasmania.

His crew included the prominent captains Nathaniel North, Thomas Howard and Booth's eventual successor, John Bowen. He is first recorded as a gunner aboard the Pelican about 1696, and later on the Dolphin, both operating in the Indian Ocean. While he was a gunner on the Dolphin, she was trapped at Sainte-Marie Island by a British fleet in September 1699. The crewmen were offered a pardon by the British commander. Some of the pirates accepted the offer, but Booth and others after burning the Dolphin. They captured of a French merchant ship and Booth was elected they captain.

From there, Breakes bought a letter of marque from the governor of Gibraltar and turned to pillaging throughout the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. In his adventures, he plundered a convent in the Balearic Islands and then decided that it was inappropriate for his crew to be unmarried, so he had each of his men select a nun from the convent, who was then kidnapped and brought to the ship to perform their wifely duties. He then became homesick and upon returning to Holland to marry his mistress, Mrs. Snyde, he discovered that she had been hanged for attempting to poison their new born son. Later, at the shores of Brazil plundered nine Portuguese ships and gain valuable cargo of weapons, skins, sugar, fabrics, boxes of gold dust and money. By that time, however, was between Portugal and England concluded an alliance.
