Colonial Sense (CS) is a custom Content Management System (CMS) for specialized data retrieval and display. Or, in other words, it's a database designed to store and curate most any information about the Early Modern (EM) era (our definition covers 1492-1859) in general, and Colonial America in particular...and it masquerades as a website.

CS provides original articles, journal transcriptions and interviews, as well as a wealth of curated material, ranging from current EM news and events to historical recipes, biographical data, and dictionary entries, to name a few of the myriad resources you'll discover on our site. However, we do tend toward the more eclectic and non-mainstream path in much of our content; thus, our motto is "If we don't have it, we'll show you where you can find it."

CS hopes to cultivate a community of Early Modern/Colonial America enthusiasts and provides many tools to advertise related products and services, as well as encourage interactions and dialogue between our members.

We are constantly striving to improve Colonial Sense, in both the depth and breadth of material; however, if we've overlooked an area you consider to be important, please let us know and we will see what we can do to include it -- if it's important to the colonial sensibility, it's important to us!
