a German painter and professor, and between 1821 and 1837 he was a member of the Preußische Akademie der Künste. He was born in Berlin. After initial studies in theology he went in March 1787 to Berlin to study at the academy. In 1789 he became a teacher of the art school, in 1794 Professor of the same. He traveled in 1804 to Italy , returned in the fall of 1807 but on his chair back to Berlin.
