a Mechelen painter from the sixteenth century. Verbeeck belonged to a painting dynasty that was active in Mechelen from about 1540 to about 1620. His workshops specialized in grotesque satirical and moralizing scenes in imitation of Hieronymus Bosch, whose subjects included the Temptation of Saint Anthony, peasant weddings and scenes of sensual nature. Verbeeck's studio remained active until the early seventeenth century.
