He was born and died in Glatigny in the PercheHe was the third son of Louis du Bellay and Marguerite de la Tour Landry He was, like his brothers, a skilled negotiator, a great captain and a patron of literature. His memoirs of the Italian Wars form one of the most significant primary sources for the period.
