a German novelist. She was born in Kaufbeuren and died in Offenbach am Main. La Roche's first novel, published by Wieland in 1771, was her most successful. However, she wrote several other novels. Her works were meant to be morally instructive for young women. Some lwere written against the background of the post-revolutionary period.
