THE LEFFERTS HOUSE, FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN NEW YORK.
Present house dates partly from before 1776 and partly from a century earlier. A portion of the house was destroyed by the British in the battle of Long Island, but was soon rebuilt on its undamaged beams.


JAN DITMARS HOUSE AT FLATLAND NECK, BROOKLYN. NEW YORK.
Date about 1800. While this house is built entirely of wood it is interesting to note that the proportions and type are exactly similar to the Harring house in Northvale, New Jersey.

A DUTCH HOUSE ON LONG ISLAND,
Early 19th century. Here the gambrel roof is about two full stories, unusual near New York. All existing examples thus designed have cornices and detail resembling the work of New England rather than other Dutch houses.

I used to work for a millwork company in Delaware. The owner had most of the White Pine Series books, original editions. They were kept in the break room and I spent a month of lunch times carefully going through them. They greatly fueled my love for early American architecture and woodworking. Very nice to have access to them again. Thanks.
