the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Church of Constantinople during the period 1711–1713. He descended from Mytilene. He was remarkably educated and served as metropolitan bishop of Cyzicus. He was elected Patriarch in 1709, but Athanasius V of Constantinople took the Throne. So, he became Patriarch after Athanasius' deposal. He fought for the economical reconstruction of the Patriarchate, but he refused the increase of the tax to the Sublime Porte, so he was forced to quit in 1713. He stayed in Istanbul until his death in 1728.
