Condition: Left side of case is dovetailed. Apparently cut down from a larger apothecary as right side of case is not dovetailed. Minor loss to overlap drawer edges.

SUSANNAH BUDD SHOBER ACCESSORY BOX, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ca. 1820, bird's-eye maple, mahogany, and pine. Removable leather tray with six compartments and two drawers, and resting on brass paw feet. Retains its original dark finish.  6.75"h. 12.25"w. 8.75"d. Sold at Garth's, November 2008, lot 749. 

To the inside of the lid of the box is affixed an extraordinarily detailed paper cutting with "Susan B. Shober" at center. This likely refers to Susannah Budd Shober, wife of Dr. Samuel Lieberkuhn Shober (b. ca 1756). The Quaker couple married in Philadelphia in 1784 and lived on Pine Street near Fifth.
