NORTH CAROLINA REDWARE DISH, early 19th c., attributed to Solomon Loy of Alamance County, with yellow, green, and brown slip decoration with a central philphlot within a sawtooth border and floral sprig on the outer edge, 10 1/4" dia. RARE PAIR OF NEW ENGLAND PAINTED RECTANGULAR DRESSER BOXES, mid 19th c., with fitted interiors, both with fruit decorated lids and berry wreath borders, the front of one with an oval landscape with a couple picking apples, the second with two stags and a man fishing in the background, one inscribed inside the lid "Asahel W. Wheelock presented by his mother," 5.25" h., 10.75" w., 6.5" d. Asahel W. Wheelock, 1827-1856, lived in Watertown, Massachusetts.

LIVERPOOL HERCULANEUM PITCHER, ca. 1810, decorated with Signals at the Portland Observatory of Portland, Maine, with twenty-four flags and "Explanation" below, the reverse with an American frigate, 8 7/8" h. The Portland Observatory, an 86-foot high tower, became operational in 1807. Financed by a group of investors, organized by Captain Lemuel Moody (1767-1846), the Observatory was used to alert ship owners and merchants that their vessels were approaching with the use of the signal flags, identifying type and location of ship. DAUPHIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA PAINTED PINE DOWER CHEST, decorated by John Seltzer, dated 1808, the top with two gray grained panels on an ochre grained reserve, the front with a central panel bearing the inscription Henrey Yeckly 1808, flanked by ivory panels with tulips arising from pots, the left inscribed John Seltzer 1808, on an ochre feather grained reserve, above a three drawer base with similar decoration, all supported by straight bracket feet, retaining its original engraved grab lock and wrought iron strap hinges, 27" h., 51" l., 22.75" d.

CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA QUEEN ANNE WALNUT SECRETARY DESK, ca. 1760, signed by Joseph Allen, the upper section with a bonnet top, flame finials, and a frieze with applied shell, above two arched raised panel doors, concealing a fitted interior with small drawers, above two candle slides, resting on a lower section with a slant lid, enclosing an ornately fitted interior, with a shell carved prospect door flanked by fluted and flame carved document drawers and small serpentine drawers, above a case with one long drawer above two short drawers and two long drawers, all supported by ogee bracket feet, 99" h., 39" w.

ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY MOCHAWARE ROULETTED

PITCHER
, with an incurvate neck over the swollen shoulder, of tapering cylindrical form to the waisted foot, dipped with alternating warm black and grey bands, the rouletted band at the shoulder painted with green slip, the grey bands decorated with orange, warm black and white cat's eyes. Unmarked. Circa 1820. 5.875" H.

Condition: Good condition, with minor rubbing to edges and handle. There is a short firing crack to the spout, and an internal scar where the lower handle terminate area has been pushed in by the potter, while applying the handle. The light losses to the very edges of the handle are original to manufacture, as are the tiny firing flaws in the handle.
